Obesity is a pathology associated with multi-factorial aetiology. A global preventive approach, including all interested parties, is required in the fight against this condition. Our project fulfils such a requirement since it tries to get all agents committed to the fight against obesity and weight problems. On the one hand, it aims to train the food sector into advising and stimulating food producers on the current trend for healthy diets. On the other hand, it seeks to stimulate those involved in food production and preparation in the use of the management tool designed within the frame of the project, allowing them to control and reduce the amount of fats, salt and sugar in their products. "FOOD PRO−FIT" also hopes to make citizens aware of the importance and necessity of eating healthier food.
Our project wishes to improve the nutritional quality of prepared / processed food at regional / local levels in order to make the healthier choice for the consumers the easiest choice. To achieve that goal, the self-evaluation HACCP system will be extended by including nutritional criteria into the value chain of food production, preparation and service processes. The expected results are:
In short, "FOOD PRO−FIT" is expected to contribute to obesity and overweight prevention by stimulating food innovation and reformulation among small and medium food service providers, thereby offering a wider choice of healthy products to citizens and thus ultimately leading to changes in food habits as the health determinant that it is.
This website arises from the project "FOOD PRO-FIT: HANCP as a public health indicator for the value chain of food production processes" which has received funding from the European Union, in the framework of the Public Health Programme.
